Were You There?

There’s a familiar old spiritual hymn that asks, “Were you there when they crucified my Lord?” (Click here for a version recorded by Johnny Cash and the Carter Family.)

The truth–and the good news–is that we were not there. And it’s a profound truth, because Jesus died on the cross in our place. We should be punished there for our sins, but it was Jesus received it instead of us.

As we approach Good Friday, take some time to reflect on the death of Christ on the cross–for you. With humility and gratitude we receive the gift of resurrection and eternal life. Good Friday is what makes Easter possible!
