Sharing is Caring
Sometimes one of our children may receive a special treat or gift from someone. While they do often have their own things, under certain circumstances we may encourage them to share their enjoyment with their sibling. We all understand the underlying value: sometimes we enjoy things best when we share them with others.
However, this idea runs counter to the prevailing values of our culture. Our own possessions are exactly that: our own. Some of us may fiercely defend the right to do whatever we want with the things we call our own. Whether I choose to share what I have–or not–is my own option.
But the Scriptures offer us a different perspective. We believe that everything comes from God, and that God’s lordship of our lives includes our money and possessions. What’s more, we believe that God gives us things not just for our own benefit, but for the benefit of others. How will we share what we have with those who need it?
Blessings,
