Holy Disruption

Holy Disruption

After being away for about 10 days, I recently came home to find several small tree limbs lying in the yard. There wasn’t any damage, but I could see the evidence of a storm while we were gone.

The Bible describes God’s Spirit using the same words for “wind” or “breath.” It’s an appropriate way to describe how God’s Spirit moves among us. We cannot see the wind, but we can see the effects of it. God may not be physically visible to us, but we can see evidence of the presence of God all around us.

Sometimes wind is disruptive; it may leave limbs and debris strewn around, or we may have to pick up an empty trash can. In the same way, God sometimes disrupts the plans that we make for ourselves. God’s movement is not always predictable or expected. Sometimes, the work of God is not initially welcome in our lives. This week, look for evidence of God’s Spirit at work. How might God be disrupting status quo?
