Against the Flow

Against the Flow

You probably know the feeling of moving along with a crowd of people. Maybe everyone’s headed down into a subway platform, or out of a stadium after a concert or sporting event. In any case, there aren’t a lot of options for the direction you should take; you mostly find yourself pushed along with everyone else.

Generally speaking, culture moves us in much the same way. It has always been the case that the dominant culture largely determines what is morally acceptable or forbidden. It’s not always bad to be moved by the flow of culture, but Jesus’ instruction is clear: the values of God’s kingdom often conflict with the values of the rest of the world.

Make no mistake: Jesus-followers are called to be counter-cultural. During worship this Sunday we will look more closely into being shaped by God, rather than culture!

Blessings,
Pastor Paul Cook
