Family Resemblance

When our first child was born, one of the nurses told me that newborn babies supposedly look more like dad than mom so that dad will develop a strong bond with the child. I don’t know if that’s really true or if it’s just something people say. Honestly, I’ve always had trouble discerning a family resemblance between any newborn and either parent.
I’m sure others can see it more clearly, but to me, newborn babies look like infants; I can’t see a family resemblance until they get older.
As children of God, we don’t always resemble our heavenly Father, but God’s design is for us to become increasingly more like God as we mature in our faith. This is true in many areas of life–our habits, our words, our attitudes, for example. But it is also true of our generosity.
God is always extravagantly generous in his gracious blessings. We can never out-give God, but it’s good for us to live more generously as we deepen our faith. God is generous! Do we share that family resemblance?
Blessings,
Pastor Paul Cook
