God Thoughts
Suppose we could keep inventory of the numerous random thoughts that flow through our head every day:
I can’t forget to put gas in the car before I go home today.
In the daylight, these clothes don’t match as well as I thought they would.
I wish I didn’t fly off the handle like I did earlier.
I hope the test results come back OK.
I’ve been meaning to reach out to my cousin; I wonder how she’s doing?
Of course, many of our thoughts are healthy, good, and actually related to whatever we’re doing at the moment. Others, not so much.
The ability to focus our thoughts plays an important part in shaping who we are. As the Apostle Paul put it, “If anything is excellent and if anything is admirable, focus your thoughts on these things” (Philippians 4:8).
This Sunday in worship we begin a new series called “Cultivating Character.” We will look at how God transforms us into the people that God wants us to be. Whenever you become aware of it, take the opportunity to fill your head with God thoughts. Take a look around you: what do you see that is excellent? What things are admirable near you? Think about those things.
Blessings,
Pastor Paul Cook
