New Fruit

New Fruit

Maybe you’ve noticed a lot of new varieties of apples on the market in recent years. The Honeycrisp apple, for example, was not developed until the 1990s but it can now be found in stores anywhere. A more recent newcomer is Cosmic Crisp, which is actually developed from Honeycrisp.

It’s not that produce dealers are discovering new varieties out in nature. Rather, breeders are developing new varieties specifically to produce certain characteristics that consumers are looking for: crispness, sweetness, acidity, color, aroma, juiciness, and so on. It’s a long process that can take many years before a new variety appears on store shelves.

The Apostle Paul describes the work that God does in us as “fruit of the Spirit.” These are characteristics of God’s own nature that God seeks to produce in us. Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control.

It can be a long process, but God keeps working in our lives so that we bear this kind of fruit. How will the fruit of God’s Spirit be borne out in your life today?

Blessings,
Pastor Paul Cook
