Matriarchs of the Messiah
Have you ever been in a Christmas play? When I was growing up, it seems that I was most often assigned the role of “narrator.” Apparently, they thought I was better at reading than acting!
The long-standing tradition of Christmas plays reflects our natural impulse to act out the meaningful story of the birth of Jesus: Mary, Joseph, the innkeeper, and so on. We each play our own role in retelling what God has done and is doing.
Our focus on Sundays during the Advent season will be on “Matriarchs of the Messiah.” The Bible mentions a few women who played important roles as ancestors of Jesus. Although they come from a variety of backgrounds they represent key figures in the story of what God is up to.
This serves as an invitation for us to find our own role in God’s story today. What is God up to in your life? Where do you fit into that? What role will you play in God’s important work in the world? Join us for worship this Advent season!
Blessings,
Pastor Paul Cook
