Everyday Courage
Once in a while you hear stories about regular people who perform acts of heroism: something like pushing someone out of the way of an oncoming train or stopping to help in a car accident. Most often, these heroes say that they simply did what anyone would do in that situation. That might be true–we never really know unless it happens to us.
We celebrate this kind of heroism, but courage doesn’t have to be rare; it can be an everyday experience. We show courage when we finally have that difficult conversation that we’ve been putting off. Or when we show up the gym, even though we haven’t been there since this time last year. Or when we commit to a decision that will likely change our life.
By contrast, sometimes we miss opportunities when we give in to our fears. Maybe we fall into old patterns, not because they’re better, but because they’re familiar.
Take a moment today to ask yourself: What is one brave action that I can take today? No matter how small, is there something that would nudge me to be courageous? Am I willing to trust that God will be with me in today’s adventure?
Blessings,
Pastor Paul Cook
