Well Connected

An ironic side effect has developed in the era of social networking. While social networks like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram connect people together in a way like never before, research is showing that increased social media use can lead to an increased perception of social isolation.
There’s nothing bad about social media in itself, but it appears that rather than connecting people together, it makes them feel more disconnected and alone.
Generally, people are attracted to social media in the first place out of a desire for connection to others. But no measure of Friends and Likes on these platforms can give us the true connection we’re looking for. What can we do about it?
For starters, seek out genuine community that can only come from offline social connection. Instead of sharing pictures of your meal, share a meal. Rather than texting, make the phone call. Chat over coffee, not just online. Life is meant to be shared with others!
