Fearing Fear
In his inaugural address, Franklin D. Roosevelt famously said, “We have nothing to fear but fear itself.” These words are not just clever rhetoric; they speak to something that is often true about ourselves.
Fear has a way of defeating us even before we get started. Sometimes it has a paralyzing effect on us. We delay making a decision because we’re afraid to make the wrong choice. We put off taking action because we don’t want to make a mistake. We let our anger with others consume us instead of confronting them about it, because we’re afraid of how they might react.
Life has its uncertainties, so we can’t always be certain that we’re making the right decisions. But one of the best choices we can make is to confront the fears that threaten to defeat us. Whatever we do in life, God promises to be present with us. Replace your fear of the unknown with the knowledge that God is with you!
Blessings,
