Pillar Faith

Pillar Faith

We have all seen images of columns and pillars from the ancient world. In many cases, these pillars remain upright without any support at all, long after ceilings, walls, and other structures have collapsed.

The fact that such pillars have withstood many centuries of weather, wars, and seismic activity is a result of their design. They were not constructed as stiff, rigid posts. Instead, they were made to be able to stand firm, but still flex and bend slightly when necessary. To this day, some columns lean a bit, even while remaining solidly upright.

In the book of Revelation, Jesus compares Christians who persevere to pillars in the temple (see Revelation 3:12). Firm and solid, but able to bend in response to changing circumstances. Life often demands some flexibility from us, but our faith helps us to persevere.
