A Priceless Pearl

La Peregrina Pearl is one of the most valuable and famous pearls in the world. It was first found more than five centuries ago and has been owned by monarchs of Spain and England. It ended up at a Sotheby’s auction in 1969, where Richard Burton purchased it for only $37,000 as a Valentine’s Day gift for his wife, Elizabeth Taylor. More recently, her estate sold it in auction for more than $11 million!

Jesus describes God’s kingdom as an extremely valuable pearl. He invites us to imagine a pearl dealer searching everywhere for the one. And when he finds it, he sells everything to obtain it.

I’m sure we’d all love to own a priceless pearl. But would you be willing to sell everything you have to acquire it? At that point, the personal value would exceed the price tag on it. In fact, is there anything in the world that you would sell everything to obtain?
