Generational Sin

Generational Sin

A new Presidential administration always signals new policy changes that affect that nation in various ways. The timing happens to coincide with the release of covid vaccines, offering more signs that change is on the horizon for all of us.

As we collectively turn the page to a new chapter of life, we have to wonder: What about the racial injustice that so many cried out against during the past year? Will we leave that behind us as yesterday’s problems? Will we all try to move forward in life and forget about past racial injustice?

It might surprise many of us to learn that the Bible speaks often about the consequences of sin extending across multiple generations. For example, Jeremiah 32:18: “You act with mercy toward thousands upon thousands, but you also bring the consequences of the fathers’ sins on their children after them” (CEB).

The damage brought on by one generation does not simply disappear at the end of that generation. I invite you to join us for worship online at 10:00 a.m. this Sunday. As we continue our celebration of Black History Month, we will look more closely at the idea of sin that transcends generations. How can we move forward if we refuse to acknowledge the past?

Blessings,
Pastor Paul Cook
