Agreeing in Prayer
Jesus once said, “If two of you agree on earth about anything you ask, then my Father who is in heaven will do it for you” (Matthew 18:19). This, of course, should not be construed as a formula to obtain whatever we want from God. But it does emphasize the importance of involving other people in our prayers.
Our faith is often private, isolated, and personal, between only God and ourselves. To be sure, Jesus speaks of praying in private to avoid an ostentatious display of piety. But it’s also clear that God intends for us to practice our faith in community.
When Jesus was in his greatest hour of need on the night before his crucifixion, he specifically asked his disciples to pray with him in the garden. But the night was long, the disciples grew weary, and they had trouble staying awake.
Who are you praying for today? Find someone to pray with you!
