God’s Care for God’s Land

God's Care for God's Land

Why should Christians care about the environment? There may be a lot of reasons, but one of the greatest is that we should care because God cares about God’s own creation. We often find examples in the Bible of God showing special concern for animals and the land.

In one instance, God says, “Don’t muzzle an ox while it is threshing grain” (Deuteronomy 25:4). The idea is that if an ox is working to thresh the grain for human consumption, the ox ought to have an opportunity to eat some of the fruit of its own labor. Animals often work in service to humans, but God wants them to be taken care of.

Along similar lines, our worship this Sunday will focus on God’s concern for the land. Land needs to be stewarded, preserved, even protected from human exploitation. Here again, humans depend highly on the land for our own survival, but our use of the land cannot go entirely unchecked. We care because God cares.

How do you take care of some of God’s Green Earth?

Blessings,
Pastor Paul Cook
