Making Plans

Making Plans

As I have been unpacking essentials at the parsonage, I opened a seasonal box by mistake. In it I found this mug and Christmas themed table setting for twelve. I barely remember packing this box months ago. There they are though, each of the named silver and ivory reindeer dessert plates and these snowmen mugs meticulously enveloped in bubble wrap. Then, I didn’t know where I would be moving or which church I would be serving. I had no idea I would get engaged and married. I had no way of predicting that there would be a vaccine that brings with it the promise of another Christmas dinner party or Advent Open House. When I packed this box, none of these plans were in place. My only option was to be faithful and wait; to trust and believe the good future was before and God would, yet again, come through. We do not know that plans for our lives. The prophet Jeremiah reminds us of the truth in God’s great rescue plan for all humanity and for each of our lives as individuals. “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11. I look forward to hosting an Open House at the parsonage this year with cookies served on these plates. What plans do you have in the works? How do you see that God is working in your future?

In Christ,
Pastor Elyse
