Focusing on the Good
And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable–if anything is excellent or praiseworthy–think about such things. Philippians 4:8
For Christmas last year, Eric had this wonderfully silly portrait of my dog’s head superimposed on a noble gentlemen’s (human) body. I love it! It is whimsical and of a creature I dearly love. This time of year, people get excited about the coming holidays and simple treats like pumpkin spice coffee. When such pleasure is expressed there is a tendency by others to squash it. It feels like a wet blanket on someone’s little joy fire. The scripture redirects our minds from being sucked into political vitriol, cultural wars, or even picking at people who celebrate holidays too early. (I thought I heard a Christmas song being played in a store the other day.) There is good happening. As people of faith, do we see it? We live finite, short lives. Focus on the good, the godly, and the simple joys in life and let others do the same.
