A Blessing… and a Gift!
Some of you may be familiar with the TV series Monk, a comedy-mystery drama starring Tony Shalhoub as the title character, Adrian Monk. In the show, Mr. Monk suffers from extreme obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), which sometimes hinders his ability to function well in society. At the same time, Mr. Monk’s obsessive eye for detail enables him to solve stubborn mysteries as a consultant for the police. He easily spots tiny discrepancies, patterns, and connections that the detectives miss. Some of his personal struggles are exactly what help him to crack difficult cases. As Monk himself says, “It’s a blessing . . . and a curse.”
To say the least, Mr. Monk has found his niche. While his OCD is sometimes debilitating, he recognizes that he possesses a unique set of gifts, and he’s found a way to use those gifts to make a difference in the world.
Among all the people in the world, it’s amazing to consider that God has created us each individually. No one else in the world is just like me–or you. God has also placed each of us in a unique position to change the world. We have a role to play that no one else can. We might find that life has challenges, but we are also blessed with unique gifts! How is God calling you to use your gifts this week?
Blessings,
Pastor Paul Cook
