Perspective
“I’m starving! When will dinner be ready?” Most parents have heard this from their children at one time or another. Adults also have their ways of exaggerating their suffering. “It was boiling in that room today. I thought I was going to die!” Or, “It took forever for them to get my meal order ready.”
We know it’s hyperbole; we don’t mean those things literally. But it’s sobering to acknowledge that some people really do experience extreme suffering and hardship. As followers of Jesus, it’s important to do what we can to help those who are in need.
But it’s also good for us to have a different perspective in life. When we realize the raw truth that some people live in much more difficult circumstances than our own, we become more aware of how good we really have it.
When waiting for our food, we can be grateful to receive such a delicious meal. An arduous commute reminds us of the blessing of gainful employment. A much-anticipated Amazon delivery signals the abundance that we have.
This Sunday, we’ll talk more about how Easter changes our perspective on life. Until then, count your blessings!
Blessings,
Pastor Paul Cook
