A New Thing

You probably have some New Year’s traditions. Maybe you always gather in the same place with the same group of family or friends. Many people make a list of New Year’s resolutions–or at least one thing to work on during the coming year.

When we turn the calendar to the beginning of a new year, it’s good for us to look forward to the year ahead. As we reflect on the past, we naturally think about ways we want the coming year to be different.

Keep in mind that God also wants to do a new work in our lives. As God once said to the people of Israel, “Look, I’m doing a new thing!” (Isaiah 43:19). As you make new plans, resolutions, or decisions for the coming year, this is a good opportunity to invite the work of God in your life. What new things do you sense that God is up to?
