Proof Positive
We made an interesting observation in our Online Community Group this week. We noticed that Acts 1:3 says that Jesus “showed them (his disciples) that he was alive with many convincing proofs. He appeared to them over a period of forty days….” We might normally simply read past those words without paying much attention.
But think about what it’s saying: After Jesus was raised from the dead, he appeared to them on multiple occasions for forty days and gave numerous demonstrations that he was alive. Wouldn’t you think that just one encounter with someone who was raised from the dead would be sufficient? How many does it take to convince them?
This points to an interesting facet of human nature: we are often slow to believe. Sometimes we ask for a sign from God, when God is at work all around us. Sometimes we know what God wants us to do, but we keep seeking more confirmation.
What does it take for us to believe when God is working? What proof will be convincing?
By the way, if you’re not part of our Online Community Group, you’re missing out! Contact me for details.
