The Best Policy

Psychologists have observed that children develop a capacity to lie usually around three years old. Initially, young children’s fibs are transparent and easy to discern, but as they get older, they get more sophisticated. By five to eight years old, they are usually able to provide support for a lie, either with facts or with more lies.

As adults life gets more complex, and along with that, our ability to maintain the truth. Should we tell the truth, even knowing that it might hurt someone? Is a convenient lie ever justified? Sometimes it’s difficult to discern the truth, even within ourselves. We can talk ourselves into seeing life a certain way.

But God is truth, and our relationship with God is based on truth. This is good news for us. So much of life is relative and unreliable. But God seeks to be known by us in a way that is trustworthy. When all else is uncertain, God is always true!
