Resisting God

Resisting God

It was a long time before humans figured out how to accomplish flight. The earliest attempts at human-powered flight took their inspiration from birds in nature. If birds can apparently defy the law of gravity, all we need to do is make some wings and copy their behavior. Early ornithopters unsuccessfully tried to do just that.

Successful flight finally came about as a result of working with the laws of physics, not trying to work against them. Eventually, our understanding was enhanced by what is known as Bernoulli’s theorem: the air passing over a curved wing travels more quickly than the air below it, creating lift. It’s more complicated than just that, but with well over 100,000 flights every day around the world, we’ve got a pretty good handle on how it works.

Similarly, sometimes we can find ourselves in a struggle between our own will for our lives and God’s will. What we want for ourselves is not always what God has in mind. Perhaps all of us know that tension of the wills between God and us.

But God’s design is not for human existence to be a battle against God. Instead, life is best when we discover and follow God’s very best for our lives. Tremendous freedom can be found when we stop resisting and truly take flight!
