An Everlasting Father
A lot of people gather with family members during Thanksgiving and Christmas. Undoubtedly, this year will be different for many of us. We’re all figuring out new ways to gather virtually and connect in other ways.
During the recent Thanksgiving holiday, it occurred to me that I’ve actually spent a lot of Thanksgivings over the years away from home and other family members. Some years I’ve lived out of the country, where it’s just an ordinary November Thursday. On several occasions we’ve celebrated Thanksgiving with neighbors, friends, and other “adopted” family. For the holiday, at least, everyone’s family.
You probably know what it’s like to open your home for the holidays and to treat everyone like family.
This gives us an idea of what the prophet Isaiah was describing when he envisioned the birth of a king who would be an Everlasting Father (Isaiah 9:6). The image is of a large family in which God is the head of the household and everyone is invited.
And you are invited to worship with us online this week, as we worship Jesus our King, the Everlasting Father!
Blessings,
Pastor Paul Cook
