All Creatures are Blessings
Blessed are you, Lord God, maker of all living creatures.
You called forth fish in the sea, birds in the air, and animals on the land.
You inspired St. Francis to call all of them his brothers and sisters.
We ask you to bless this pet.
By the power of your love, enable it to live according to your plan.
May we always praise you for all your beauty in creation.
Blessed are you, Lord our God, in all your creatures! Amen.
This Sunday is the Pet Blessing which will take place in-person, near the Cornerstone courtyard area. If you are unable to join us at the church building but you would like to bless your own pet from home or while on vacation, this is a great prayer to use. Our Catholic siblings honor St. Francis of Assisi and remember his contributions to the Christian life together with all of God’s creation. He was a sort of Dr. Dolittle character or “dog whisperer” in how well animals responded to him and in his gentleness towards domestic and wild animals alike. Whether from home or in worship together this Sunday, remember humans were given dominion over animals and were charged to give them care. (Genesis 1:26) What a gift God gave us when He gave us pets!
In Christ,
Pastor Elyse
